Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional title, took control to force a decider.

He saved 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
