Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz around the recent awards show was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
