Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the incident left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
